Thousands of people across the country have signed a petition urging the White House to give up one of its closely guarded secrets, the recipe for honey ale. The ale is made from honey from the White House beehive and is one of three beers made in small batches, The New York Times political blog The Caucus reported.

Some 3,000 beer aficionados have already signed the petition on the White House website. Some 25,000 are needed by mid-September to get an official response. In addition to White House Honey Ale, the White House also makes blonde ale and a honey porter.

President Barack Obama is apparently the first to brew beer in the White House. The beer is made is small batches for special occasions and the first family picks up all costs, according to the Times. Beer enthusiasts are so keen to get the recipe for the White House brews that they have even considered filing a Freedom of Information Act request.

However, the Times notes the White House is not subject to the act.
