SUITLAND, Md. -- Police say a pregnant homeless woman was held at an apartment in a suburb of Washington, D.C., for five days, then her captor tried to cut the unborn baby from her body.

Prince George's County Police say 40-year-old Veronica Deramous befriended the 29-year-old homeless woman at a shelter and had her come to her Suitland apartment with the promise of receiving baby clothes. Once there, police say, Deramous attacked and bound her.
