Democratic lawmakers in Texas are planning to file a resolution today adopting some conservative and Republican solutions for comprehensive immigration reform, according to The Austin American-Statesman.

The resolution urges Congress to create “a commonsense road map to citizenship for some 11 million undocumented immigrants, promotes economic growth, and strengthens national security,” the newspaper reported.

The Democratic sponsors of the measure included proposals from the Texas Federation of Republican Women, which last month expressed support for granting legal status or citizenship to young people in the country illegally, provided they meet certain standards, including fluency in English.

The Statesman noted that although the measure has no force of law, state lawmakers believe that sending a bipartisan message from Texas, which has millions of undocumented immigrants, will help influence Congress to move quickly on immigration reform.
