A bust of Rush Limbaugh is being held in the basement of the Missouri state Capitol building, but could be unveiled in a ceremony this week inducting the talk show into the Hall of Famous Missourians.

Republican state House Speaker Steve Tilley has chosen the Cape Girardeau, Mo., native for the honor, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Monday.

Lawmakers said the induction could take place this week, depending on Limbaugh’s schedule and how busy the legislature is before final adjournment of this year’s session on Friday.

According to the Post-Dispatch, Democrats oppose honoring the conservative firebrand, citing most recently his reference to Georgetown law student Sandra Fluke as a “slut” after she testified in favor of health insurance for contraceptives.

Democratic state Rep. Stacey Newman told the Post-Dispatch that Tilley asked her and a few of her fellow Democrats “to be on our good behavior” at the induction — if it actually takes place.

The House last week approved the placement location for the Limbaugh bust in the Capitol Rotunda. But the state Senate and Democratic Gov. Jay Nixon will still have to sign off on it, the Post-Dispatch said.
