Organizing for Action (OFA), the group once known as Obama for America, the president’s re-election campaign organization, has run afoul of IRS regulations governing nonprofit “social welfare” organizations, The Weekly Standard reports.

The new independent group that will advocate for such progressive causes as immigration reform and gun control, recently pitched events to collect signatures to get former Democratic National Committee Chairman Terry McAuliffe on the ballot for governor of Virginia.

The events were posted on BarakObama.com with the words “Paid for by Organizing for Action” at the bottom of the page where “Paid for by Obama for America” once appeared, The Standard reports.

The postings have been removed from the website.

Internal Revenue Service rules governing 501(c)(4) “social welfare” organizations prohibits Organizing for Action from engaging in such activities, The Standard reports.

This isn’t the first time the organization has violated IRS nonprofit rules.

Two weeks ago, emails from President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden were sent soliciting campaign debt donations. The emails took recipients to BarackObama.com with the disclaimer "Paid for by Organizing for Action."

Ironically, in a story on Politico on Friday, the organization “insists that promoting the White House’s legislative agenda can’t be counted as ‘partisan political activity.’

The organization this week released its new guidelines declaring its intention to “stay out of politics,” Politico reports.
