First there was the politicization of chicken. Now it may be pizza’s turn.
Popular pizza chain Papa Johns waded into the Obamacare debate on Tuesday after telling its shareholders that the healthcare plan will add 11 to 14 cents to every pizza, Politico reported.

The company’s CEO and founder, John Schnatter said changes mandated by Obamacare will force the company to raise pizza prices.

"Our best estimate is that the Obamacare will cost 11 to 14 cents per pizza, or 15 to 20 cents per order from a corporate basis," Schnatter said on a conference call, according to Politico.

"We're not supportive of Obamacare, like most businesses in our industry. But our business model and unit economics are about as ideal as you can get for a food company to absorb Obamacare," he said.

Schnatter added, "If Obamacare is in fact not repealed, we will find tactics to shallow out any Obamacare costs and core strategies to pass that cost onto consumers in order to protect our shareholders best interests.”

One Papa John's franchise owner in Texas, Judy Nichols, told Legal Newsline that Obamacare may cost her up to $30,000 extra in taxes.

“I have two options, I can stop offering coverage and pay the $2,000 fine, or I could keep my number of staff under 50 so the mandate doesn't apply.

Obamacare is making me think about cutting jobs instead," she said, according to Legal Newsline.
