President Barack Obama will appear as a guest on “The Late Show with David Letterman” during a trip to New York on next Tuesday, Sept. 18.
The news comes on the same day the president declined a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, citing a scheduling conflict, the
National Journal reports.
Obama is to return to Letterman's show just a month after First Lady Michelle Obama made two Late Show appearances.
The president, locked in a close race for reelection, is seeking to capitalize on a likability gap.
An ABC News/Washington Post poll released on Tuesday showed that 61 percent of voters see Obama as the more friendly and likable person, versus only 27 percent who think the same of GOP rival Mitt Romney.
Obama last appeared on the Late Show in September 2009, the National Journal reports.
