Online auction junkies could tear a page out of Ferris Bueller’s playbook with a unique eBay opportunity this week: Pony up a million bucks and you’ll hold the reins of all the horsepower of the C
hrysler Saloon President Barack Obama used to lease.
The joyride to rival Bueller’s could cost you more before the auction ends Wednesday, as the $1 million is just the starting bid. On the other hand, nobody had bitten by Monday afternoon, so maybe the price could come down.
According to the seller, Obama leased the gas-guzzler from 2004 through 2007 before trading up to a hybrid.
“We have the original Illinois title showing this vehicle was actually used by Barack,” Chicagoland’s cubfanatic23 writes. “I’m sure many of them were highway miles back and forth from Chicago to Springfield since Barack was an Illinois State Senator during 2004. He [was elected] to the U.S. Senate in November of 2004 and perhaps drove the car in Washington, D.C., and back to Chicago from 2005 to 2006.”
Well, if so, he couldn’t have done that too many times, because the ad touts the mileage as being a mere 20,800.
The seller’s ad lauds the fact that interested bidders will be provided with the car’s title scan.
“A copy of the title showing the vehicle was in his name is now added to the photo section. This Chrysler was put into Obama’s name on July 13, 2004, when the vehicle had two miles on it,” the listing reads.
The starting bid requires a deposit of $2,000 due within 24 hours of auction close. The full payment required within 10 days of closing — and the buyer is responsible for picking up the vehicle or paying for shipping.
The seller goes on to justify the steep cost, noting that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s Peugeot claimed 1.5 million euros at auction, while Adolf Hitler’s convertible blue Mercedes fetched $8 million.
