Issa: Obama Government ‘Most Corrupt In History’

By    |   Wednesday, 25 April 2012 11:06 AM EDT

California Republican Rep. Darrell Issa, chairman of the House Oversight Committee, calls President Barack Obama’s administration the most corrupt history.

The remarks, which came on Bloomberg TV, one-upped a previous assessment by Issa that the White House is “one of the most corrupt” in history, Politico reports.

“We are very busy in Washington with a corrupt government, with a government that I said more than a year ago, was perhaps, because of the money, because of the amount of TARP [the bank bailout formally known as the Troubled Asset Relief Program] and stimulus funds, was going to be the most corrupt government in history, and it’s proving to be that, just exactly that,” he said.

“This money, at the American people’s expense, going through the hands of political leaders, is in fact corrupting the process, whether that’s Solyndra, or GSA, or a number of other scandals,” he added. Solyndra is the failed solar-panel maker that received a $535 million government loan guarantee. The General Services Administration is under fire for an $800,000 junket in Las Vegas.

It was in Oct. 2010 that Issa called Obama “one of the most corrupt presidents in modern times” on Rush Limbaugh’s radio show. But Issa backed off that view shortly afterward, clarifying that he was talking about the government, not the president himself.

In January 2011, Issa told CNN that Obama’s spending programs had a “corrupting effect.”

Again he cited TARP, the fiscal stimulus program, and healthcare spending.
