Author Gutfeld: Mainstream Media Biased Against Conservatives

The mainstream media has a double standard in how it treats figures on the left and right, showing favoritism to liberals, says Greg Gutfeld, author of the new book, “The Joy of Hate: How to Triumph over the Whiners in the Age of Phony Outrage.”

Many people “who claim to be open-minded are only open-minded until they meet somebody who they disagree with,” he tells John Bachman of Newsmax TV. “You see this most amongst the left. . . . Every day there is a new example of the left shouting at the right about something while ignoring their inadequacies and their own idiocy.”

So the news media has no problem making fun of conservative women like former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, Gutfeld, host of the Fox News Channel program "Red Eye With Greg Gutfeld," and host of FNC's "The Five," says. But when it comes to criticizing a woman on the left, that’s a different ballgame.

Both the left and right are going after each other. And, “it happens definitely more on the left because they have been doing it longer and they have more people on their team,” Gutfeld says. “The media is always there to egg it on.”

Liberals just don’t play fair, he says. “The left has always been a bottom-feeder, doing the worst kinds of character assassination.”

A good examples is book reviews, Gutfeld says. When liberals are reviewing a conservative book online, “they have no problems going out and trashing people without reading something,” he says. But, “I don’t know anybody on the conservative side to go out their way to vilify someone.”
