A survey by TiVo Research and Analytics found that Americans are just as divided over their TV programs as they are about their politics. If you’re watching golf, Nascar, and reality television, chances are you’re a Republican. If your preference is live and animated comedies, you’re probably a Democrat.
The survey, reported by The New York Times
, managed to parse even professional versus amateur sports. It found members of the GOP were prone to watch NCAA basketball while Democrats tuned into the NBA.
The survey was based on viewing data from 186,000 homes gathered from cable boxes and covers shows watched in the first half of 2012. In the top 20 shows of Democrats and Republicans not one show appeared on both lists, the Times reported.
On the networks, Democrats gravitated to "The Cleveland Show," "Family Guy," "American Dad" and "30 Rock,” while tuning into the cable shows like Jon Stewart’s “The Daily Show” and “The Colbert Report.”
Reality shows dominated Republican viewership on both the networks and cable and included such shows as "The Biggest Loser," "American Idol," "Pawn Stars," and "Sister Wives Tell All," the Times reported.
