Chicago is the most corrupt city in the country, according to a University of Illinois professor who formerly served as a city alderman.

Things haven’t changed all that much from the bad old days when dead people voted and live people were urged to vote early and often, Dick Simpson, a political science professor at the university’s Chicago campus, told WBBM Radio.

“We have had machine politics since the Great Chicago Fire of 1871,” he told the CBS station. “Machine politics breed corruption inevitably.’

Simpson said he used U.S. Department of Justice data to back his conclusion.

He was set to present a report on corruption and ways to combat it before the city’s new Chicago Ethics Task Force on Wednesday night.
