It’s not just dyed-in-the-wool Republicans who are enthusiastic about presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s choice of Paul Ryan as his running mate.

Former NBC Nightly News anchor Tom Brokaw also sees the Wisconsin congressman as a wise selection.

"I’ve been talking all summer long to the old guard in the Republican Party,” Brokaw told MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” program. “They kept saying he’s got to do something to change the game. He’s getting defined by the Obama people every day, and he has to get on the offensive.”

So did Romney complete that mission with his choice of Ryan?

“I do think it changed the game, and I think from a very clinical point of view, it was the right decision for him to make,” Brokaw said. “It clarified a lot of things. You've got a young guy who is very popular with his base. He comes from Wisconsin, which is a state that might now be in play; it’s always been safe for Democrats in the past. And there's a certain amount of clarity about what we're going to debate."
