Hotel/casino mogul Sheldon Adelson spent more than $100 million on Republican candidates and conservative causes in this election cycle and says he’s ready to “double” that going forward.
"I'll spend that much and more," he told
The Wall Street Journal. "Let's cut any ambiguity." He particularly wants to finance anti-union initiatives in states. Forbes magazine estimates Adelson's wealth at $21.5 billion.
Adelson isn’t deterred by the fact that eight of the nine candidates he directly backed this year failed. Nevada Sen. Dean Heller was the exception.

"I happen to be in a unique business where winning and losing is the basis of the entire business," he said. "So I don't cry when I lose. There's always a new hand coming up."
He certainly hasn’t lost his appeal for GOP candidates. Five governors, including potential 2016 presidential candidates Bob McDonnell of Virginia and Louisiana's Bobby Jindal, sought him out during the Republican Governors Association conference last month. Adelson says he’s not backing anyone yet.
While Adelson is conservative on many economic issues, he says the GOP should pull back on social issues. "We [the Adelsons] are pro-abortion rights, pro stem-cell research," he said.
Adelson also backs the Dream Act, which could provide a path to citizenship for some illegal immigrants. And "I'm in favor of a socialized-like health care," like in Israel, he said.
The beneficent billionaire was almost certainly the biggest donor in the 2012 elections. The conservative Koch brothers reportedly planned to spend $60 million.
