Actor and singer Will Smith says he's been thinking about adding another accomplishment to his resume: politics.
In a podcast with
The Hollywood Reporter Smith said he has always been a "climber," and that when he sees a mountain he wants to ascend it.
"[A]s I look at the political landscape, I think that there might be a future out there for me. They might need me out there," Smith said. "This is the first year that I've been incensed to a level that I can't sleep, you know? So I'm feeling that at some point, in the near future, I will have to lend my voice to the conversation in a somewhat different way."
Smith didn't elaborate on how that might pan out, whether he would run for office himself or support others.
But he said he believes he owes something because of the success he has been able to achieve.
"America's the only place on Earth that I could exist," he said. "No other country on Earth produces Will Smiths, you know? No other country on Earth produces Denzel Washingtons, you know, or Oprah Winfreys ... or Barack Obamas. If you look back historically, of how black people have had it on the planet, America is elevating quite well, based on the history of our people."
