Five years after Terri Schiavo's high-profile death, there's little indication Americans are heeding lessons from her case and filling out advance directives.

In the months surrounding the Florida woman's death five years ago Wednesday, there was a notable spike in people putting their own end-of-life wishes in writing in hopes of averting such a protracted family fight.

But experts say today, just 20 percent to 30 percent of U.S. adults have advance directives, the same range as before the Schiavo case. Even in polls of older adults, who fill out such forms at higher rates, there is little if any change.
