NEW YORK (AP) — New York City police say an actor who once appeared on "Ugly Betty" stabbed his mother to death with a 3-foot sword.

Police say 55-year-old Yannick Brea was found kneeling in the bathroom of her Brooklyn home with head cuts early Tuesday. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

They say her 31-year-old son, Michael Brea, was arrested on charges of murder and criminal possession of a weapon. He is undergoing a psychiatric evaluation at Kings County Hospital. Police didn't know if he had an attorney.

Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly says the son had no prior arrests and he was not sure if he had a psychiatric history. He once appeared on ABC's now-canceled "Ugly Betty."

A neighbor told the Daily News of New York that he heard screams of "Repent, repent, sinner, sinner!"
