Texas Sen. Ted Cruz told a crowd of Massachusetts voters Hillary Clinton was behind the Deflategate scandal surrounding the New England Patriots.
The Republican Cruz, who is running for president, appeared in Andover, Mass., over the weekend and said
Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, who received a four-game suspension for his suspected role in having footballs deflated before a playoff game earlier this year, was framed.
"Let me start by saying, Tom Brady was framed," Cruz told a crowd of about 500 people. "I'm not willing to pander on much, but on that, Tom Brady was framed.
"And I will say this: I have it on good authority that Hillary Clinton did it. Why do you think she deleted her emails?"

Cruz made the comments at the home of state Rep. Jim Lyons on Saturday,
according to the Boston Herald.
Cruz is one of nine Republicans in the crowded field contending for the GOP nomination for president. He was the first candidate to enter the race, on March 23.
Others are expected to join the campaign in the near future.
There are just three Democrats officially running at this point in the campaign season.
Clinton has come under fire on several fronts, including her use of a private email address and server during her time as secretary of state. She deleted thousands of emails before turning over others to the government.
Clinton, who announced her candidacy for president in April,
has also been criticized for not taking many questions from the media during her campaign despite holding several events with voters.
