President Barack Obama has passed the easy part of the test. Two polls show that Americans responded very positively to his State of the Union speech Tuesday night, Politico reports. Now comes the hard part of making policy.

obama, speech, poll, happyAs for the polls, a survey by CNN/Opinion Research Corp. shows that 84 percent of Americans had a positive response to the speech, with 52 percent saying their reaction was “very positive.” That compared to 15 percent of respondents who reported a negative reaction. It also represents an improvement from last year’s State of the Union address, which received a 78 percent positive response and 21 percent negative response.

Meanwhile, a CBS News poll showed 91 percent of listeners approved of Obama’s proposals in the speech, and only 9 percent disapproved. Last year, 83 percent of listeners approved of Obama’s proposals.
