When Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., became House speaker in 2007 she became one of the most powerful elected women in American history. She lost that power four years later and has been trying to win it back since, according to Spinners and Winners.

During this election cycle, Pelosi raised more than $43 million for Democrats at nearly 500 fundraisers. She has made tireless efforts to win back the house for Democrats. Pelosi insists she is motivated by more than regaining the House speaker title, Spinners and Winners reports.

"It isn't about me. It is about what is at stake in this election and, quite frankly, I wish that so much were not at stake in this election,” she said.

Pelosi believes her Republican opponents have “endless money, secret, undisclosed, special-interest money that they pour into elections. But I think we can offset it. We have out-raised them, out-redistricted them, and out-recruited them." Pelosi told Spinners and Winners.

Pelosi also criticized fellow progressive Russ Feingold who recently said Pelosi was not doing enough to protect Social Security and Medicare.
