ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (AP) — The United States is demanding the release of an American diplomat arrested in the shooting deaths of two Pakistani men.

It said he acted in self-defense on Thursday in Lahore when he shot and killed two armed men at they approached his car intending to rob him.

Pakistani officials have said they intend to bring the American to trial and have largely ignored questions over any immunity he may have.
