COLUMBUS, Ohio — Former U.S. Rep. Robert Shamansky has died at his Ohio home at age 84.

Epstein Memorial Chapel says he died last week in Bexley, an affluent suburb of Columbus. It hasn't disclosed the cause of his death.

Shamansky was a congressman from 1981 to 1983. He was an attorney who resumed practicing law after he lost re-election to John Kasich , now Ohio's governor.

The Democrat also unsuccessfully ran for a House seat in 1966 and 2006.

Shamansky was born in Columbus and graduated from Ohio State University in 1947 and Harvard Law School in 1950.

He served as a special agent in the Counter Intelligence Corps of the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952.

A funeral is set for Wednesday. Kasich has ordered flags on state-owned property in Franklin County be flown at half-staff that day.
