Almost half of Americans now disapprove of the way President Barack Obama is handling the nearly 10-year-long war in Afghanistan. He retains the support of just 44 percent, and 49 percent disapproval, a new
Washington Post-ABC News poll showed.

Among independents, a key segment of Obama’s victory in 2008, 53 percent disapproved of the president’s handling of the war. Such low numbers among independents have not been seen since just before Obama announced the surge in 2009, the Post reported.
Among Republicans, half believe the war is still worth fighting but almost 70 percent disapprove of Obama’s stewardship. Among Democrats, 30 percent disapproved. The poll was poll was conducted April 14 to 17 and queried 1,001 adults, the Post reported.
