A charity auction — offering a private dinner with Maine's Republican Gov. Paul LePage to the highest bidder — was won by a medical-marijuana group, The Portland Press Herald reports.

The Medical Marijuana Caregivers of Maine outbid Republican and Democratic Party leaders by bidding $1,000 for the dinner for four.

The auction, benefiting the Legislative Memorial Scholarship Fund, gives a college scholarship of up to $1,000 to one student from each of Maine’s 16 counties.

"I think we got it up to $850," Ericka Dodge, a spokeswoman for Senate Democrats, told the Herald. "We were tempted to keep going, but we figured the marijuana folks deserved it."
