Members of the House are preparing to offer an immigration proposal of their own.

A half-dozen House members divided equally between Democrats and Republicans have been working to finalize legislation to introduce around the time of President Barack Obama's State of the Union address, which is scheduled for Feb. 12.

Their proposal is expected to be a comprehensive plan similar to what Obama and the Senate are proposing and would include a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants already in the country.

The fate of any immigration proposal in the Republican-led House is uncertain because of many House Republicans' concerns about granting legal status to illegal immigrants.
