Holt to Malzberg: Border Patrol, Customs and Air Traffic Furloughs on the Way

Thousands of border and customs workers, as well as air traffic controllers, will be furloughed this week if sequestration occurs, New Jersey Rep. Rush Holt says.

“I’ll tell you five minutes ago I was with people who represent customs and border patrol agents,’’ told Steve Malzberg on Newsmax TV’s “The Steve Malzberg Show’’ on Wednesday.

“And they said they have been given instructions for furlough that will take effect on Friday.’’

Holt added: “These are customs and border patrol people, FAA air traffic controllers. I don’t think this is scare tactics …

“[It’s] effectively a 10 percent cut … so it’s 5,000 border agents.’’
