Viewership rates for Wednesday night’s presidential debate between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney delivers some more bad news for the president, about six million more people watched than in 2008.
Some 58 million people tuned in to watch the GOP challenger defeat Obama in the first of three scheduled debates.
Viewership for the first debate between Obama and Sen. John McCain was about 52 million four years ago.
Both numbers, however, pale in comparison with the 2008 vice-presidential debate between Joe Biden and Sarah Palin. Nearly 70 million watched that debate. The next televised debate on Thursday next week will pit Biden against Romne's Republican running mate Paul Ryan.
Fox News topped the cable networks with about 10.4 million viewers and among broadcast outlets CBS edged out ABC, with 10.1 million viewers.
