President Barack Obama blamed Fox News for his political problems in a 2010 meeting with labor leaders, saying he was “losing white males” who watch the station and “hear Obama is a Muslim 24/7,” according to a new book. The book is titled “Showdown: The Inside Story of How Obama Fought Back Against Boehner, Cantor, and the Tea Party.” It was written by David Corn, Washington bureau chief for Mother Jones magazine, and is scheduled to hit bookstores Tuesday,
Politico reports.
The book recounts Obama’s tenure in the White House from the 2010 mid-term elections to the beginning of the 2012 campaign. As for the Fox News effect, “The Republicans have been at this for 40 years,” Obama said, according to Corn. “They have new resources, but the strategy is old.”
The author writes that Obama changed his strategy last year, dropping his effort to compromise with moderate Republicans and instead moving to confront the tea party, Politico reports.
The book also mentions Obama's anger during a meeting with an adviser after the 2010 midterm elections, where he slammed corporate executives for attacking him.
“I saved these guys when the economy was falling off a cliff,” Obama said, according to Corn. “Now I get nothing but their venom.”
