Louisiana’s state senate has passed a bill that attempts to keep sex offenders off of social media websites like Facebook and MySpace. House Bill 55 is now on the desk of Republican Gov. Bobby Jindal, who is said to be a supporter of the legislation.

The law would make it illegal for registered sex offenders — just those who have been convicted of sex crimes against minors — to log on to social-media sites, chat rooms, and sites that allow users to download content from other users, reports TheNextWeb.com.

The sites themselves have also been policing their ranks, as TNW points out. In 2009, MySpace removed 90,000 users with criminal sexual backgrounds.
