The Illinois Supreme Court has ruled that a judge from outside Chicago can preside over the involuntary manslaughter case of a nephew of former Chicago Mayor Richard Daley.

In a one-page ruling, the court announced Friday that it had decided the case should be heard by a judge in McHenry County northwest of Cook County.

Earlier this month, Cook County Chief Judge Timothy Evans recused himself to avoid any "appearance of impropriety" that might come from allowing a judge in Cook County, where Daley was so influential for many years, to oversee the case.

Daley's nephew, Richard Vanecko, is charged in the 2004 death of David Koschman, who died days after he fell and struck his head during a fight with Vanecko outside a Chicago bar.
