NEW YORK (AP) — A fire raging through a six-story New York City apartment building is proving difficult for hundreds of firefighters to get under control because of strong winds.
A fire official says at least 20 firefighters have been injured while battling Saturday's blaze in Brooklyn. None of the injuries are life-threatening. Three civilians also suffered minor injuries.
The official says strong winds are complicating firefighters' efforts at the building on East 29th Street. The National Weather Service has issued a citywide wind advisory until 4 a.m. Sunday.
The five-alarm fire was called in at about 6:40 p.m. Over 200 firefighters were called to the scene.
Firefighters have been pulled out of the building, which has about 70 apartments. Dozens of residents were displaced.
