After being silent on social media since her 48-second defeat to Amanda Nunes in December, former UFC champion Ronda Rousey posted a cryptic meme Monday to Instagram that may generate more questions than answers.
Rousey posted an inspirational quote on her Instagram page by "Harry Potter" author J. K. Rowling that read, “And so rock bottom became the solid foundation on which I rebuilt my life,” Sports Illustrated reported.
Rowling spoke those words at a Harvard commencement address in 2008. Rousey’s bout with Nunes was supposed to be a comeback for her after she lost the UFC women’s bantamweight title to Holly Holm in 2015, ABC News reported.
After her loss to Nunes, Rousey didn’t talk to reporters, but released a statement the next day that read, “I need to take some time to reflect and think about the future. Thank you for believing in me and understanding.”
Besides professional MMA fighting in the UFC, Rousey has also begun an entertainment career, appearing in movies such as “The Expendables 3,” “Furious 7,” and “Entourage.”
It is unclear whether she will now retire from mixed martial arts fighting to pursue acting or try another comeback to the sport at some point.
