News emerged Wednesday that Israel and the extremist group Hamas have agreed to a
truce in the Gaza Strip to end eight days of fighting that has killed more than 140 Gaza residents and five Israelis.
It remains to be seen if a cease-fire can hold or if both sides plunge back into the on-and-off turmoil and warfare that has troubled the region for decades.
