Here's some advice from the creators of International Talk Like a Pirate Day: "Just say 'Arrrgh' a lot."
The parodic, cult holiday celebrates its 18th anniversary Thursday and encourages all celebrants to speak like a pirate. That means a lot of inarticulate growls with a few "ahoy, mateys" and "shiver me timbers" thrown in for good measure.
To help, TalkLikeaPirate.com offers some useful tools, like its
pirate name generator,
how-to guide, and

Businesses across the country are also joining in on International Talk Like a Pirate Day. Customers who say "Arrrgh" at Long John Silvers get free whitefish, while those in the pirate spirit can get up to a
dozen free glazed doughnuts at Krispy Kreme.
A few radio station DJs have even vowed to broadcast in pirate lingo all day Thursday.
Here are some tips from Time.com:
"Say 'aaargh' a lot, use 'ye' instead of 'you' and sound more British than a chimney sweep… Use 'me' when you would have used 'my,' don't be afraid to slur your words, think nautical, and threaten people... While taking part in tomorrow’s festivities is strictly a playful endeavor, violent threats will give your character a greater ring of truth."
