The decision in Texas to enact a law promoting incandescent light bulbs in spite of federal regulations phasing them out has apparently had little effect on their usage and future in the state, according to the
Austin American-Statesman.
The legislation, intended to be a symbol in the fight against big government regulations from Washington, allows Texans to manufacture incandescent bulbs to help create jobs and keep the traditional lighting device on store shelves.
But so far, the law, which took effect Jan. 1, 2012, has failed to attract a single manufacturer to the state.
In addition, the supply of incandescent bulbs appears to be dwindling fast across Texas, the Statesman reported, because retailers are confused and worried about being fined or punished under federal law for even selling them.
