Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla. plans to propose an ambitious plan to cut

the federal budget — even though it has virtually no chance of becoming law,
Politico reports.
Appearing Sunday on CBS's "Face the Nation," Coburn said that $9 trillion can be cut from the budget in 10 years — and he plans to lay out how to slash $1 trillion from the Pentagon, another $500 billion from discretionary spending and save "trillions" from overhauling entitlement programs like Medicare and Social Security.
