Sen. Jim DeMint has said he doesn’t plan to run again, and yet the South Carolina Republican has filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission and is raising money for a 2016 re-election bid, The State newspaper reported Wednesday.

DeMint, a favorite among conservatives and tea party activists, has raised $105,700 so far, according to his most recent campaign finance report.

“Senator DeMint has said the same thing for over a year, that it’s not his plan to run again, but he hasn’t ruled it out,” DeMint’s spokesman, Wesley Denton, wrote in an email to The State.

Signing the candidacy form gives DeMint the option of running for re-election if he decides he does want to seek a third term.
