Sen. Jim DeMint, a favorite with conservatives and tea party activists, says he probably won’t seek re-election in 2016 and he has no plans to run for the White House, The State newspaper reported.

“I limited myself to six years in the House, and I’m going to limit myself, pending some unforeseen circumstances, to 12 in the Senate,” the South Carolina Republican said Monday, when asked about term limits during an appearance at the Columbia Rotary Club.

“If you see the finish line you can give it all you got,” he said.

He also said he has no presidential ambitions.

“I’m the only senator who does not see a president when I look in a mirror,” DeMint said, according to The State. “I’m looking for someone better.”
