A conservative group backing Rep. Michele Bachmann’s presidential bid has launched a television ad in Iowa attacking Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s order requiring young girls to be vaccinated against a sexually transmitted virus that can cause cervical cancer.

Perry has since called the executive order, which was never enforced, a mistake. But that hasn’t stopped Bachmann from attacking him on the issue in the GOP race for the presidential nomination, in which Perry, at least for the moment, is generally considered to be the front-runner.

In the 30-second spot paid for by the North Carolina-based Keep Conservative United campaign, a narrator charges that the order was issued as a favor to Perry and to help the vaccine company that once employed his wife.

Story continues below video.

“The question is about Rick Perry’s character,” the narrator says.

The ad never mentions Bachmann by name, nor does she appear on the screen. But the group has aired commercials in South Carolina bashing Perry and portraying Bachmann as the only true conservative in the GOP presidential field.
