Apple is set to unveil its new 15-inch MacBook Pro laptop which will feature upgrades including Retina Display, USB 3.0, and a thinner build, according to sources from Apple’s supply chain.

Sources who have experienced a prototype of the device say the new laptop will be “definitely the most important Mac innovation in years.”

“The new 15-inch MacBook Pro is described as being an ultra-thin version of the current MacBook Pro. Basically, the prototype design is a thinner, yet more robust, version of the late-2008 design,” 9to5Mac’s Mark Gurman reports.

Gurman reports that the new laptop won’t come with a CD/DVD drive, contributing to its thin shape. It will be so thin that it won’t have room for an optical drive, much like the MacBook Air.

The screen, with the introduction of the “Mac Retina Display,” will feature a very high resolution. Other changes include a power button for the keyboard itself (replacing the eject button).

The new laptop will also feature an Intel processor called Ivy Bridge, which will be faster than the current Intel processors and will feature improved graphics.
