Massachusetts Democrat Elizabeth Warren has been raising large amounts of money out of state over the past three months in her bid to unseat Republican Sen. Scott Brown, with her biggest hauls coming from the cities of New York and Los Angeles.
Citing an analysis of campaign finance reports from April through June, the
Boston Globe reported Monday that Warren’s “top fundraising source” overall is still her home state, but the senator raised $400,000 in New York and $350,000 in Los Angeles, compared to $450,000 from the Boston/Cambridge area.
The newspaper also noted that 60 percent of Warren’s larger contributions of $200 or more have come from out of state over the course of her Senate campaign.
Warren, the Globe noted, “has been heavily critical” of Brown’s “Wall Street fundraising.” But Brown, who depended more on out-of-state contributors in the 2010 special election to replace the late Democratic Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, has pulled more form in-state contributors this year.
In addition to New York and Los Angeles, the newspaper found that Chicago, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C., were also top donors to the Warren campaign.
The months of April, May, and June proved to be the most lucrative yet for both candidates, according to the Globe. Warren took in about $8.6 million overall, while Brown reported raising about $5 million.
