Sen. Scott Brown of Massachusetts will face off against Democratic challenger Elizabeth Warren on Wednesday night in Springfield in the third of four debates as new polls show the Republican incumbent with a four-point lead, according to the Boston Herald.

Warren said she will focus on job creation in the debate.

“The next debate I hope will be about the issues that matter here to families in the commonwealth of Massachusetts. We’ve got 200,000 people who are unemployed so it should be about jobs,” she said, the Herald reported.

The campaigns are hitting TV airways hard this week with ads ahead of the debate. In his ad, Brown accuses Warren of pushing to raise taxes, according to the Herald, and Warren’s ads show angry families of asbestos workers calling Brown a liar.

Warren’s camp decried Brown’s ad as “false attacks,” adding, “Brown voted to let taxes increase on 98 percent of Massachusetts families and 97 percent of small businesses, and he can’t defend that vote.”

The Massachusetts GOP sent out a mailer accusing Warren of “25 years of deception and cover-ups” over the use of her Native American heritage.
Brown said he hopes to pick up where he left off in last week’s University of Massachusetts Lowell/Boston Herald debate.

“I know the issues. I know the votes. I know the attacks she’s going to have,” said Brown.

Of the new WBUR poll showing him back in the lead by 4 points, Brown said, according to the Herald, “It’s the same reaction I had before — polls are going to be up and down all around, but the poll I’m going to be looking for is November 6th around 9:30 p.m.”

Brown was endorsed on Tuesday by former New Jersey Gov. Christine Todd Whitman.
