Almost two-thirds of American voters think the country would be better off if Democrats tried to work with President Donald Trump rather than fight his every move, according to a new poll.
The results from the Rasmussen Reports survey of likely voters:
- Sixty-three percent said Democrats should try to work with Trump, for the good of the country.
- Twenty-nine percent said the country would be better off if the Democratic Party continues to oppose Trump's actions.
- Forty-four percent of Democrats said it's better for the country and their party if they fight Trump.
- Forty-six percent of Democrats said it's better for America if they work with Trump, and 45 percent said it would benefit their party.
The far majority of Democratic lawmakers have opposed just about everything Trump has proposed and done since he was sworn in Jan. 20. The opposition has created a sharp divide both on Capitol Hill and in the American public.
Trump will address a joint session of Congress Tuesday night, and independent Sen. Angus King would like to see Trump conduct some "bridge building" during the speech.
