President Donald Trump reportedly dished out a threat to Republicans who do not support the House GOP's Obamacare replacement bill: back the bill or I won't support your reelection.
The Washington Examiner cites sources who said Trump made the comments during a White House meeting this week with House Republicans who are tasked with drumming up support for the American Health Care Act.
Several Republicans do not support the bill, which was unveiled Monday by House leadership. Trump's ultimatum, in which he vowed to back the primary challenger of any Republican who does not support the healthcare proposal, is meant to squash any opposition to the bill as the GOP-controlled Congress tries to repeal and replace the struggling Obamacare law that was passed in 2010.
"The president will respond as circumstances dictate," a House Republican told the Examiner. "He has unique capacities; I wouldn't want to be the one he tests them out on."
Trump met with Texas Sen. Ted Cruz this week as he tries to woo other Republicans to support the legislation.
