Business entrepreneur. TV star on “The Apprentice.” And now Donald Trump can add a new title: Statesman of the Year.

Trump has been honored with that title by the Republican Party of Sarasota County, Fla.

The award will be presented on Aug. 26, the day before the opening of the Republican National Convention, at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Sarasota, south of the convention site in Tampa.

“We are honored to have Donald Trump as our Statesman of the Year,” Joe Gruters, Chairman of the Republican Party of Sarasota County, told Newsmax.

“He is a very sage, skillful, and respected leader.

“Jobs and the economy are the important issues in this election year, and Mr. Trump is one of the few people who can command respect from people in all walks of life.

“This award is well deserved.”

Tickets and sponsorships at the award ceremony begin at $110 and range to $1,000 for a private meet and greet with Trump.

“Donald Trump is honored to receive this award,” Trump spokesman Michael Cohen told Newsmax.

“It would seem obvious that Donald Trump will play a role in the Tampa convention, as his massive popularity, reflected in this recent award, shows what an asset he would be in making the convention into an even greater success.”

Then-Gov. Haley Barbour of Mississippi received the Statesman of the Year award in 2011.
