Ohio Democratic Party Chairman Chris Redfern brought political debate down into the gutter, using a curse word to describe opponents of the healthcare reform law. And it wasn’t just a mild expletive, but rather a variation of the f-word, Politico reports
, citing local TV station WTOV’s video clip. What’s more, he has refused to back down, sending an e-mail to supporters that he will “never apologize for speaking out forcefully against” opponents of the healthcare law.
At a United Steelworkers union gathering Monday, Redfern offered supporters of the law a response to give tea partyers who oppose it.
“Now he or she gets healthcare, your health care, while he or she looks for a new job. In the very base terms, we win these arguments and every time one of these [variation of f-word] says — excuse my language,” Redfern said.
Ohio Republican Party Chairman Kevin DeWine offered this response: "Ohio Democrats have clearly lost it before they've lost it. No one likes trailing in the polls, but Ohioans deserve better than angry stump speeches full of name-calling and profanity. It's certainly far from the politics of post-partisanship that the Democrats promised two years ago. Let's show a little class."
Rather than apologize for his crude remark, Redfern's e-mail to supporters Wednesday afternoon said he thinks tea partyers use obscene tactics against the healthcare law.
