Former GOP New Hampshire Gov. John Sununu said Tuesday night that the retraction by Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Cal., of her remarks that Obama administration officials were responsible for national intelligence leaks looks a little fishy.

“Sen. Feinstein said yesterday that it did come out of the White House,” Sununu said on Fox News’ “Hannity” program. “Today, she got Cory Bookered, and she walked it back, but the fact is that this president is trying anything to change the subject from his failures as a president.”

Feinstein, who chairs the Senate Intelligence Committee, first said Monday that she “think[s] the White House has to understand that some of this [national security leaks] is coming from their ranks.” But on Tuesday she said, she “shouldn’t have speculated, because the fact of the matter is I don’t know the source of the leaks.”

Booker, the Democratic mayor of Newark, N.J., criticized President Barack Obama in May for his campaign’s attacks on Bain Capital, the private equity firm co-founded by Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney. But then the staunch Obama supporter took back his comments in a move that looked like it may have been orchestrated with the Obama campaign.
