Mitt Romney’s strong performance in Wednesday’s debate is paying off in the latest polls from key swing states, according to data provided by RealClearPolitics.com.

Surveys from conservative-leaning Rasmussen Reports and We Ask America taken after the debate show Romney either leading or narrowing President Barack Obama’s advantage in Ohio, Florida, and Virginia.

In Ohio, a We Ask America poll shows Romney ahead 47 percent to 46 percent. Rasmussen shows Obama ahead 50 to 49 percent. In the most recent major poll prior to the debate, taken Sept. 30-Oct. 1 by NBC/Wall Street Journal/Marist College, Obama led 51 to 43 percent.

In Florida, Rasmussen has Romney ahead 49 to 47 percent, and We Ask America shows him leading 49 to 46 percent. The Sept. 30-Oct. 1 poll by NBC/Wall Street Journal/Marist showed Obama ahead 47 to 46 percent.

In Virginia, Rasmussen has Romney leading 49 to 48 percent, and We Ask America shows him ahead 48 to 45 percent. The Sept. 30-Oct. 1 poll by NBC/Wall Street Journal/Marist showed Obama leading 48 to 46 percent.

The three states are part of the 12 won by President George W. Bush in 2004 and then by Obama in 2008. Florida has 29 electoral votes, Ohio 18, and Virginia 13.
