The Romney campaign has launched a new TV ad showing the candidate’s strong support for Israel and contrasting it with President Barack Obama’s weaker support.

A narrator begins the ad, titled “Cherished relationship,” asking “Who shares your values?” The narrator points out that as president, “Barack Obama has never visited Israel and refuses to recognize Jerusalem as its capital.”

And what of Obama’s Republican challenger? “Mitt Romney will be a different kind of president — a strong leader who stands by our allies,” the narrator says. “He knows America holds a deep and cherished relationship with Israel.”

The video offers clips from Romney’s visit to Israel last month. That includes his meeting with good friend Benjamin Netanyahu, the nation’s prime minister. “We speak the same language of freedom and justice,” Romney says in a snippet of a Jerusalem speech included in the ad.

“And like the U.S., Israel respects the rights of people of all religions,” the narrator says. The ad closes with footage of Romney touring the Western Wall. “It’s a deeply moving experience to be in Jerusalem, the capital of Israel,” he says.

Romney has taken heat from Democrats for allegedly implying during his trip that culture explains Israel’s economic superiority to Palestine – an accusation Romney denies. In any case, the new ad should help him rebut Democratic attacks.
