Romney, Huckabee: Once Enemies, Now Friends

By    |   Wednesday, 11 April 2012 12:01 PM EDT

Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee engaged in heated battle during the 2008 presidential campaign, but now they’ve become fast friends.

In 2008, Huckabee, a former Baptist minister, said “I don’t think Romney has a soul,” journalists John Heilemann and Mark Halperin wrote in “Game Change,” their book about the 2008 race, The Hill reports. But on Monday, Romney was the first guest on Huckabee’s new talk radio show. And there is even talk that the former Massachusetts governor might tap his former rival as a running mate.

Huckabee’s attitude toward Romney appeared to soften after Romney appeared for an interview on Huckabee’s Fox News TV show last September. Two months later, Huckabee said, “he [Romney] has performed flawlessly in all of the forums and debates.”

As for the possibility of a vice presidential bid, Huckabee told “Fox and Friends” last weekend, “I love to say it this way. Don’t buy the corsage for the prom until you get the date. It’s just not good form.”
